For the first time, Parley and Christie’s are partnering in an auction to offer a group of ten contemporary artworks in the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale held October 14, raising funds for our Global Cleanup Network.

Works by world-renowned artists James Nares, Peter Schuyff, Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Ed Ruscha, Katharina Grosse, Kenny Scharf, Rosemarie Trockel, Flora Yukhnovich, David LaChapelle and Maria Berrio have been donated to be sold in support of Parley initiatives and our mission of climate and ocean protection. Many of the works included come directly from the artists’ personal studios.

“Like the oceans, art is a connecting force—and one that can draw us to new ways of creating, thinking and living. Artists are therefore powerful agents of change in the environmental cause. We are grateful for Christie’s and for their commitment to support Parley.”

Cyrill Gutsch — Founder and CEO, Parley for the Oceans

Leading up to the sale, clients can view the artworks at Christie’s New York through a Virtual Reality (VR) experience from October 1-4th using Vortic technology that transport collectors to an imagined underwater space. In these most crucial months for climate action, everything is up for redesign. A virtual reality platform designed to meet the high fidelity needs of the arts offers a genuinely enjoyable and beautiful alternative to traditional events of the international art calendar, reducing environmental impacts while retaining the human interaction and social elements that underpin the art world. The artworks are also on view at Christie’s London from October 6, as well as through the Vortic platform.

With coastal cleanups and interception operations carried out in over 30 countries so far, the Parley Global Cleanup Network works to protect marine environments from plastic pollution and other threats. Parley is incredibly grateful for the support of the artists whose generous contributions will help make a tremendous impact. Every piece of plastic we remove from marine environments is a win for marine life, local communities and the ocean ecosystem.
