Parley x Grenada: Blue Week 2016

“The ocean keeps us alive. Now we have to return the favor...the good news is that it’s not too late. We still have a chance to turn things around, but it must take action by all of us, everywhere, every day.”

DR. SYLVIA EARLE

We're thrilled to announce Grenada as a partner of the Parley Ocean Plastic Program. The island country has pledged to adopt and implement the Parley A.I.R. Strategy to avoid and reduce plastic waste, intercept and recycle current pollution, and redesign materials and methods to protect the beauty and fragility of the oceans, the planet's largest and most vital ecosystem.

The Parley x Grenada MOU was officially signed in a ceremony during Blue Week 2016, an international conference that aims to promote blue growth and investment towards unlocking the value of maritime and coastal assets for economic growth, while conserving natural and social capital. At the conference, Parley Operations Director Mike Long presented the Parley Ocean Plastic Program and A.I.R. Strategy, and messages from “Her Deepness” Dr. Sylvia Earle and Parley Founder Cyrill Gutsch explored the ways we can all rethink our choices, redesign plastic materials, and work together to build and implement long-term solutions for the oceans — now and for generations to come.

Held May 14-22 in St. George's, Grenada, Blue Week 2016 focuses on bringing together ocean-related investments into a coherent package of bankable projects to increase the economic benefits to small island developing States (SIDS) and least developed countries (LDCs). The conference intends to “move the needle” on ocean health through investment in Blue Growth and Food Security to contribute to increasing the economic benefits from marine and maritime.
